Estimating With Fall Leaves!

We placed a vine on the table and challenged the class to estimate how many orange blocks (which you can somewhat see above the vine on the right) it would take to go the length of the vine.  Estimating is an important skill and it is one that adults use frequently.
Everyone had a chance to guess a number.  We'd listed all the numbers so it was good practice in number recognition to read them off again.
Now we will figure out the correct answer.  Sophia is placing another orange block along the length of the vine.
Charlie is straightening the line.
Sammie is counting.
Our emphasis in this activity was showing the kids how you might figure this problem out  and we were happy to see that there were no crazy guesses of 100!    Everyone was fairly close which was great.  Congrats to Lukas and Charlie B., out best guessers, with the correct answer of 9.
