A Week of Fall Fun!

The children are great at patterning with color (red/blue) but what happens when we are patterning with wooden clothespins?  Anna was a wonderful problem solver when she realized she could turn a clothespin around and create a pattern that way.  Brainstorming with the entire class produced many original ways to make those "identical" clothespins different!
Even when we removed the gems and gold coins the sand table was busy with scooping and pouring!
Laura is in our class "birthday circle".
Birthday girl and her mom!
Charlie is "golf ball" rolling to create the background for his Thanksgiving place mat.  There's much more movement with golf balls rather than the marbles.  Using golf balls, the kids have to keep a firm grip on the box to prevent them from falling out.
Anna and Charlie spontaneously started to count how many kids liked hot chocolate on the sign in board.
Jonah is cutting out his very large shoe!
Shucking corn, just like the Wampanoag Indians, makes the first Thanksgiving a bit more real to the children.
Squash and apple soup with a hint of lemon balm....culinary arts at Temple!
In the Gan we are dissecting a cucumber to get at the seeds.  All gourds have the same kind of seeds.
James David and Jack are comparing the cucumber seeds to other types of seeds to see which ones have the characteristics of seeds from a gourd.  This is great for visual discrimination as well as beginning to teach scientific principles.
Max is using feathers and fall colors to create an original painting.
Sophia and Sammy work together on another painting.  Check out the 3 beautiful pictures hanging  over housekeeping center.
Matthew loves to swing. Swinging requires strength and coordination of  movement.
Jack and Lukas are hunting for buried treasure. We love to see  the children use their imaginations!
Sammie exemplifies our class motto.....Jump in and be curious!
