Click, Click Goes the Camera!

The boys worked as a team to complete our ocean puzzle!
Max was so excited to see a capital "M" in the word marble since his name begins with a capital "M".
We taught the children an AB pattern using bees for Rosh Hashanna. Charlie is completing the pattern.
James David finds an "R" in the room, one of our early morning sign in challenges.
Play dough is always a favorite in our class. Each girl is using a different fine motor approach as they work together to make cookies.  Laura is kneading , Sammie is pulling, Anna rolled, and Sophia is cutting the dough.
This week we added some large cups to the block area. Sophia, Max and Charlie are working together to position the cups. Adding different materials to the block area provides the children with new challenges to their building .
We opened the woodworking center this week. Matthew and Lukas are wearing goggles for safety as they hammer the nails into the styrofoam. The woodworking area helps the children with eye hand coordination, visual perception, language, and social skills.  Because this is such a popular center and only 2 or 3 kids can safely work at the same time, we've begun making a list of names so everyone knows when it is their turn.   Having to wait your turn is a very important skill too!
Sammie and Laura are matching real shells to an outlined shape, another way we develop visual discrimination.  Think about the small difference between a "b" and a "d".....its visual discrimination that enables you to recognize each one.
When we asked Max to sign his name to our Rosh Hashanna card, he said," I already signed in." He learned that to sign in with his name is different than signing his name. As he signs his name, he is very focused on moving from left to right and using capital and lower case letters.
Jack was our compost helper on Thursday. The children are developing science skills as they ask questions to learn which foods can go in the compost. On Shabbat, we received a certificate from Heidi for helping to take care of  our Earth!
Charlie, Anna, and Jonah are making crayon rubbings over a rough surface to make the bony plates for the  bodies of our seahorses.  We had the children make these rubbings on a vertical plane to develop upper body strength needed for writing.

Max and Jonah worked together to make a castle. Using prior knowledge, they created a great castle! They used various sizes of blocks to add details to their structure. They were very proud to tell us all about their castle.
Sophia and Sammie decided to use linking cubes to build a very long road. They applied several math concepts as they described their road.
We joined Crew 121 in the kitchen where we ground wheat berries into flour.  This was in conjunction with our Little Red Hen study and provided another opportunity to review the story and the sequence of events.  James David is sifting the mixture so that the flour will fall through.
Matthew, Charlie, and Lukas are waiting patiently for their turns to scoop the wheat berries in the blender.  Another super week in the curious George class!
