A Week Filled With Learning!

Charlie, Matthew, and Lukas using bristle blocks to build,  developing their imaginations and fine motor.
Every 10th day of school "Zero the Hero" visits our class, leaving a 0 behind to let us know he's been here. This is a "clue" to tell us to check the cabinet for the special 0 shaped treats he has left for us.  Charlie W. was the first one to spot the 0 this time.  Zero the Hero is a good example of how we try to individualize our instruction.  Some children will be focused on counting how many days till Zero comes again, while others will recognize numerical patterns in our 100's chart.
The children are enjoying the Cheerios from Zero.
On Monday, we had drama and Mr. Jamie had the children role play the characters in his story.  Sophia, Max and Anna are sheep.
Lukas and Charlie are cows in the play. Role playing is fun for the children as well as being a wonderful way for them to socialize and develop oral language skills.
James David was the king in the play. All the other children were animals who hid from the king so that they could surprise him with a birthday party.  James David was a very proud king!
Max is sitting in the "Show and "Share" chair. When the children bring in their item, they give clues so their classmates can guess what is in the bag. This is a good way for children to begin to focus on the most important attributes of an item.
Anna and Sophia are having a fun conversation after they dressed themselves for ballet. Getting dressed on their own builds independence.
Stringing beads and buttons is wonderful for eye hand coordination.
This week we added colorful scoopers to the buttons.  The cut out handle is perfect for small fingers to control!  We thought the children would enjoy scooping the buttons into the cups but they surprised us by turning the sensory table into a full fledged "ice cream shop".  They wandered the room, trying to sell everyone delicious ice cream or candy.  We love to see the class improve on our ideas!
Charlie B. is adding his hand print to the challah cover we made for our class Shabbat bag. We wrote everyone's names on their hand prints. When your child has the bag, see if they can read each name.
Susan taught the children how to roll paper with a pencil and then glue them to make their art projects. The children were very focused on rolling and gluing. They learned a new way to make an art project and strengthen their grips.
The children had Yoga on Tuesday. They are very flexible as Taylor had them do various kinds of stretching.

Sammie and James David are filling our Tzedakah can.  We are very pleased to see how excited the children are about bringing Tzedakah and thanks to all the moms and dads who remembered to send in a few coins.
On Friday we celebrated Harriet's birthday. The yogurt pies and fruit kabobs were delicious and healthy.
