Snap Shots of Our Week!

Is there a doctor in the house? Matthew and Jack are using the doctor's stethoscope to listen to their hearts in our dramatic play center.
Sophia, Anna, Laura, and Sammie are dressed and ready to play princess. Dramatic play is wonderful for developing language and social skills.  The children must take turns as they discuss which roles each will play.

Who said that blocks are only for building? In the Curious George room, Matthew has fun with the blocks.

Max, James David, Jonah and Jack are working together to build. They are learning to cooperate as they decide where the blocks go.  The boys knew that we wanted to take a picture of them working together but everytime they had a tall structure and they "posed", the blocks came tumbling down.  It was interesting to watch as they  problem solved together and cheerfully stuck to this task.   (We thought we had better take a picture of this mid-size tower, but they did manage to build a much more elaborate structure!)

Charlie and Jonah are using the Magnastix to connect and create structures that they can hang off the table.

During "Bb" week, Jonah and Matthew discovered the buttons in the sensory table. We added string and yogurt cups to the table so they could string, scoop or sort.

We placed two shapes on our table and a set of colored blocks. Jack and Sammie are using different techniques to explore these shapes and develop a sense of spatial awareness.  We will repeat this activity frequently,  but change the size of the shape and/or the size of the materials so that the children can apply what they have learned from past experiences.
Thursday we had a beautiful morning in the Gan.  We enjoyed exploring in the garden as Heidi told the children to use all their senses to tell her how the garden had changed since they last saw it...either at the end of school or during the summer.  In the blue classroom Heidi helped Laura add banana peels from our snack to the compost and then cover then up so the worms could get to work!   The children are learning how composting  helps make our earth a greener place  and practicing the mitzvah of Tikun Olam too.
