All Kinds of Hamantaschen !

Twelve little hamantaschen sitting on a cabinet!  Why are they there???
We gave the children Wikki Stiks and proposed the question, "How can you use your Wikki Stiks to make Hamantaschen?" The children answered us by using their knowledge of lines from the different lines that we used to make our 100 days of school caterpillar.  They said that they needed a horizontal line and two diagonal lines.  Jonah is working his upper body as he stretches to make his hamantaschen.
Jack, Matthew, Anna and Charlie are very focused as they roll the Wikki Stikks to make the filling. This required hand eye coordination and fine motor skills .
Charlie and Sammie are strengthening their fine motor skills as they apply pressure to turn their Wikki Stiks into hamantashen.
James David decided that he would use his thumb to make the center of his hamantaschen. Using his thumb was a good strategy since the thickness of the rolled Wikki Stik needs more pressure to stay on the cabinet.
Laura and Sophia had to use visual spatial skills as they had to look at all the other hamantashen and find a space to make their own. Visual spatial skills help children to analyze and interpret the relationship of their own bodies to the world around them .
After our slide's party, the children went to Culinary Arts to make delicious hamantaschen with Cheryl.
Cheryl read the recipe to the children and now they are ready to help mix the ingredients for the dough.
Cheryl shows the children how to add orange flavor to the dough.
James David wanted to feel and smell the orange after Cheryl had shaved the rind.
Charlie was ready to use his wrist and hand to twist and turn the cup to cut a circle out of the dough.
Sophia, Laura, Jack and Lukas each had a turn to cut the dough.
Cheryl shows Sammie how to use her whole hand to cut the dough.
Now the children chose Carob Chips or cooked apricots for the filling. Then Harriet showed the children how to change the circles into triangles.
We finished our hamantaschen! Hmm.... the children are ready for them to bake!
